Tupelo Honey

Food Review, Asheville Travel Guide, Must Eat Restaurants Asheville, Southern Eats

This is about to be the tastiest post to ever hit Louella Reese! Seriously if you’re hungry, you’re about to be straight hangry after reading this/looking at these photos. There’s just so much deliciousness. From chicken and waffles to the greatest pulled pork sandwich the south has ever produced. Tupelo Honey absolutely outdid themselves when Emily, Corbin, and myself visited while we were in Asheville last month.

So let’s dive on in and start talking about each of the dishes and what you MUST try when you go there this weekend. Yes you’ll be calling to make reservations once I describe some of these items to you {the photos don’t hurt either}.

I started off with a hot green tea {I was freezing}. Then Sarah, our amazing waitress, brought us a sweet potato pancake that was the perfect sweet start to our meal. There were walnuts sprinkled on top with just the right amount of powdered sugar and fresh syrup. Luckily, we were all splitting this otherwise I might have devoured the whole thing in 5 seconds. It was incredible!

Mimosa’s were an absolute MUST! You can’t brunch without mimosas right? The best part of these oversized mimosas….each one purchased provides a meal for a hungry child through WhyHunger. That’s something I can drink to! It’s called why mega-mosa if you want to order yourself up one when you visit.

Next up, Tupelo Honey‘s famous biscuits. I’m kind of a biscuit snob, kind of joking, kind of super serious haha! I definitely try them every where they are mentioned on the menu and I can say without a doubt that Tupelo Honey’s biscuit is my favorite. Not only are they warm, soft on the inside with a bit of crisp on the outside, but they also come with the most delicious honey and berry jam. I put a little dabble of the honey on one side and jam on the other. YUM!

This sandwich was one that ALL of us knew we wanted to try, the southern belle grilled cheese. We are all southern belles after all! Grilled to perfection with fried apples and gooey cheese of course. The fried apples absolutely made this sandwich. Bringing a touch of sweetness you don’t typically expect when biting into a grilled cheese sandwich. Corbin stated she plans to try recreating this sandwich this summer, I plan on being her taste tester!

So by now, if you’ve followed Louella Reese for any length of time, you know I have a think for mexican. By thing I mean a massive love affair! I am almost 100% sure I could eat mexican every single day at almost every single meal and totally satisfied. So when Sarah, our waitress, brought out these fried chicken tacos I was a tad bit excited {okay, I might have squealed}. While at the time my stomach was saying stop, my mind was telling me go! So I obviously listened to my mind and ate not just a bite to taste but the full taco. The best part of the taco was the mix of jalapeños and apples. Could there be a better taco topping combo? No, the answer is no!

Now the BEST of the Best! The mountain pulled pork sandwich. I am not exaggerating or making things up when I say my mouth literally just started watering as I typed that out. This sandwich was absolutely one of the best things that I have ever tasted, if not the best. The sandwich started with tangy jalapeño pulled pork which was smoked for 14 hours {yes 14 HOURS}, topped with one of the best fried green tomatoes I’ve had {perfect crisp and insanely fresh tomato}, which was then topped with homemade pimento cheese, and finished off with crispy onion strings. Aka heaven in sandwich form. You have to watch this video to see our thoughts on the sandwich and by that I mean Em’s awesome reaction after taking her first bite.

Overall our experience at Tupelo Honey was incredible! From the amazing service {ask for Sarah} to the sweet manager Michelle that stopped by often to check on us to the out of this world southern flavor in every dish that was tasted! If you’re in the Asheville area you absolutely have to stop by. Check out their other locations here too.

Thank you to Tupelo Honey for sponsoring this post. All views and opinions are my own!
