Men’s Grooming + Skincare with Joshua

Joshua’s back to share a little on men’s grooming + skincare!

Fulton & Roark Review // Men's Grooming // Gifts for Men // Louella Reese Life & Style Blog

To spice up your Monday, I have brought Joshua back {read his last post here}. I know you love him, so I thought it might brighten your Monday! Today he’s sharing a little about his shaving routine + updated skincare routine with Fulton & Roark. While us women talk about our skincare routines often {probably daily} it’s not something you hear men talk as much about. Well surprise, surprise they have skin too! Taking care of their skin is just as important and probably something more men need to focus on {sorry guys}! This situation is improving as is reflected by the recent trend of manscaping and Depilatory. So let’s start the conversation and get our guys to take better care of their skin!

Then there’s facial hair, having scruff or a full on bread has become pretty much the it thing for men. So how men groom themselves has become quite the popular topic of conversation, for men. I would say they definitely enjoy talking about their beards or staches WAY more than their skin. Come No-Shave November or Movember all you hear from your boyfriend, finance, husband, brother, or co-worker(s), etc..is how cool their stache is or on the other side, how they can’t wait to shave come December 1st. I think most of us gals agree with the latter one haha. So needless to say, they’re way more into that discussion and finding the right products for their face when it comes to shaving or even waxing which you can learn more about at https://waxingbyceleste.com. Rather than being a hassle, I think it’s something men actually enjoy.

So let’s dive into the discussion with Joshua and then I’ll share my thoughts on his new routines!

What’s your facial hair of choice? Come No-Shave November or Movember what are you rocking?

I enjoy rocking a Stache for Movember but throughout the year I have a beard. I really enjoy Movember because of the awareness and funds the Movember Foundation raises for men’s health. There is a group of us at the office that get together every year and support the Movember Foundation. As Men, we do not like to talk about our health but Movember {similar to our skin care} is all about stopping that stigma. It’s a good idea to make sure that you do take care of yourself. You don’t have to tell the whole world, but rather you could use a site like https://www.matadormens.com/ to help you with your health. If you think that your health is perfect, then there’s no harm in supporting this cause. Plus you get a good reason to rock a mustache.

Who is your facial hair icon and why?

I have never thought about a facial hair icon but I think it would actually be a couple of guys, I can’t narrow down to just one. Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds, and Robert Redford really kill the facial hair game. Burt Reynolds’ stache in Smokey and Bandit is a classic and Robert Redford’s beard in Jeremiah Johnson, too.

What was your skin care routine like prior to Fulton & Roark?

I don’t know if I had a skincare routine. I washed my face here and there with soap + water in the shower. Occasionally with face wash when my wife forced me. Other than that I did not have routine. It’s just not something I really thought about or honestly cared about.

What is it like now?

Definitely better than before. As Laura Leigh would say, I’m taking steps in the right direction. I wash my face everyday, sometimes twice a day with the Fulton & Roark face wash. The face wash definitely has made a difference in my skin. I can tell it’s cleaner by both the look of it and the feeling. My skin also isn’t as dry as before. Spoiler alert, using regular body soap can dry out your face.

What was your shaving routine/what did you use previously?

Previously, I just purchased whatever the cheapest shaving cream was at the grocery store. I didn’t really think about it but it was causing serious skin irritation. I had little red bumps which lead to more cuts on my neck. I also, trimmed my beard a few times a week with a beard trimmer.

What is your shaving routine like now? What do you use?

Now I shave with Fulton & Roark shave cream. I seriously noticed a difference almost immediately. No more skin irritation and a much smoother result. My neck is free of little red bumps. Therefore, less cuts too. I follow up my shave with the face wash to clean everything up. After shaving and using the face wash I have a refreshed feeling. I’m ready to take on the day! {a little joking there but also pretty serious, I feel really refreshed}.

What’s your favorite product?

My favorite product is definitely the shave cream. I now have an easier + smoother shave plus don’t have to worry about my neck breaking out. Which is very nice! I also enjoy the solid cologne as it is easy to travel with. Plus Laura Leigh enjoys the smell which is a major plus!

Would you recommend?

Yes I would recommend Fulton & Roark for sure, especially the shave cream. Their products are high quality and definitely worth the small investment. Your face and neck will thank you! You’ll also be happy when you see the difference after a few uses. Or like me, almost immediately with the shave cream.

My Thoughts on Fulton & Roark + Joshua’s New Routines

Being completely honest, I am SO happy Fulton & Roark came into our lives. I have been trying to get Joshua to take better care of his skin since before getting married. Like most men {at least most I talk to} he wasn’t into washing his face or really doing anything other than a little soap “wash” in the shower. Therefore, his face wasn’t really getting cleaned. Meaning lots of blackheads. Fulton & Roark’s face wash is the only one I’ve ever been able to get him to use regularly. Now his face is truly looking cleaner and clearer. YAY!

I also love the shave cream because he’s so happy about it! I do see the difference in his neck too. Less irritation and red bumps, which is awesome. He’s smoother, which what gal doesn’t want that for her guy! He’s also been using the solid cologne in the Hatteras scent and I am obsessed! So clean, fresh, and masculine smelling. The scent also kind of reminds me of the beach, which I don’t hate haha. I wouldn’t mind having a candle in this scent!

Overall, we’re both thrilled with Fulton & Roark and would highly recommend it! The men in my family will most likely be receiving some kind of Fulton & Roark for their birthdays and/or Christmas. Their Shave Better Set would make a great gift!

If you have any questions for Joshua feel free to email me at louellareese.com or drop a line in the comments and he’ll be sure to get back to you! Finally Josh wanted me to add that normally his shaving does not occur in a t-shirt but I did not want him showing off his bod to everyone, sorry ladies.

Thank you to Fulton & Roark for sponsoring this post! All views and opinions are of course our own. Thank you for supporting brands that make Louella Reese happen!

    • Right there with you on the face masks. Mine refuses but I am so happy he’s at least using face wash regularly now! You should definitely show your boyfriend this post. Maybe that’ll help!

  5. Sometimes I can get the honey to do a face mask with me, make funny faces and just be weird together. For the most part, he does a great job taking care of his skin without much hassel, Movember is hilarious for him, he’s got to keep it cleanly shaven or at least clean underneath.

I love that you got your hubby in on this post! I gotta get that skincare/shave set for my fiancĆ©. I’ve been trying to get him to focus on his skin and shaving routine for ages but I know it’ll especially drive me nuts after we’re married, so maybe if I get him something that’s already “bearded-man-approved” (haha) he will be more interested!

    Posted 8.22.17
    • Hahaha yes!! You should definitely give it a try. They’re great products and honestly, I think Joshua has fun using them. So maybe your fiancĆ© will as well!
