Reese Poppy

Sharing an update on Reese Poppy and sweet photos of the pup.

Reese Poppy // Louella Reese Life & Style Blog

I am not really sure where to start, so I am going to dive right in. On Wednesday, August 9th I had to say goodbye to my sweet baby. Reese Poppy was diagnosed with cancer on February 17th and was only given about 2-4 weeks to live {which I talked more about here}. Thankfully my strong gal beat the odds and lived 20 weeks longer. That time with her was everything to me and I am so thankful she showed cancer who was boss during that time.

Reese Poppy came into my life on March, 6th 2004 as a gift from my parents. I was only 14 and beyond happy to become a teenage puppy mom. That tiny two pound yorkie became my whole life. I could seriously go on forever about the first few years with her but I will just say she was the spunkiest little thing ever.

Reese Poppy stayed with my parents the first year of college, after that, she was with me through everything. I’m talking college parties, breakups, study sessions, lots of walks to get away from studying, and so much more. She was my little best friend and {if you’re a dog mom or dad you understand} sometimes the only “person” I could talk to. Dogs are seriously the best at knowing how you’re feeling and when puppy cuddles are necessary.

Post college was super similar just more real life {as I’m sure we can all agree about}. Now Reese Poppy was with me, I started full time work and fell in love with Joshua. The best part of all of that for her was she could go to work on Friday’s and live that adult life with Joshua. {P.S. how awesome is it that Joshua’s office allows their employees to bring their dogs to work on Fridays?

Then when I became a full time blogger, that meant every day together, all day! It was the BEST. Honestly the decision to take the leap {blogging full-time} happened at the perfect time. My last day at my full time job was the day Reese Poppy was diagnosed. This meant I was now able to get in all the time with her possible. I feel SO blessed for that.

I’ve shared so much about Reese Poppy over the years, and even though I am completely sobbing right now, I just didn’t feel right not to sharing this life-changing moment with y’all. I also felt I owed something to Reese as she was such a huge part of my life, my first baby

I knew this was going to be hard but I don’t think I grasped how truly hard it is. If you’ve lost a pet, I am so sorry! The pain is very real and getting use to everyday life without them is incredibly difficult. I wish I could comfort you {and myself} more but know I am really sorry for your loss and I understand how you feel.

Thank you all for your sweet comments about Reese Poppy over the years and for reading this. This was probably for me more than you but again, I felt I needed to share. Love you all!

    • Thank you Courtney! We really did go through everything together. While I’m so sad she is gone, I am beyond happy that we were able to go through all of that together and that I had her there with me. I know I couldn’t have made it through some of the tough days without her. Thank you again gal.

    • Aw, I’m sorry lady! Definitely didn’t intend to make others sad with it. I will say, I was exactly the same as you. I couldn’t understand what it would be like. Definitely didn’t expect it to be this hard. But I think it also shows how important dogs are and how much they can impact your life. Thank you for your sweet comment and the hugs! You’re the best gal!

Laura, I’m so, so sorry for your loss and keeping you in my thoughts! I grew up with a Yorkie, too (we got her in 2005) and her passing last year was really tough but I can’t imagine what it would have been like to have her with me through college and post-college life. I always loved seeing peeks of little Reese on social media–what a sweet, gorgeous pup 🙁 Sending you a big hug today xox

  13. My thoughts and prayers are with you as I know this loss all too well. Just trust and know that God cares for his animals just as he does for us. She knew how much you loved her. And in fact, the greatest amount of love you have given her was letting her go so she could be at peace, no longer in pain. Love you lady and know that I’m here for you!!!

    • Thank you so much for your sweet comment Heather! Your line about God caring for animal as he does for us, warms my heart and gives me peace. Thank you for that! Love you and appreciate you greatly.

Sending you lots of virtual hugs! I am not an animal person — but I know what a profound impact they can have on your life. It’s always hard when someone close to you passes to the other side. But, all dogs go to heaven — and I know she taught you so many lessons about unbridled joy and unconditional love you can take with you always!
