Savannah + St. Simons Island Food Guide

Sharing where we dined and what we ate for our Savannah St Simons Island Food Guide!

Last Friday I shared our travel diary from Savannah to St. Simons Island {find it here}. Now I’m diving in a little deeper and sharing what we ate at all of the places we dined at. Plus a little review of each spot. Just a warning, be prepared to drool over some of these images + dishes. While we made some smart decisions when choosing what to eat, we also really indulged! Which is what vacation is all about right?

MOON RIVER BREWING COMPANY

We stopped here for a quick beer and appetizer before we really dove into exploring Savannah. We honestly did pick it for any specific reason, other than we walked past it and they had beer. Joshua and I are both beer lovers and love trying new breweries. While the beer was pretty good {see below} the overall atmosphere had more of a restaurant vibe. Also, it seemed really commercialized. We really weren’t fans of the vibe. The outdoor area did appear to have the brewery vibe we were after but it was down pouring. I’d recommend checking that out if you stop here.

What we had:
SwamFox IPA – lighter, average – Joshua really wasn’t a big fan of this beer
Yoga Pants Pale Ale – light, hoppy – I actually really loved this beer. I wouldn’t mind drinking it again!
Salsa + chips – the salsa was delicious! Really spicy, which I personally love!

THE COLLINS QUARTER: DINNER

I was SO excited to try out The Collins Quarter. We had heard so many great things abbot the restaurant and it was definitely the most recommended. Literally everyone we talked to said we HAD to go here. I am so happy that we did. Our meals {yes we ate here twice} here were my favorites of the trip! The menu is unique, exciting, and makes it incredibly hard to make a decision.

What we had:

Old Fashioned – perfectly prepared with Woodford Reserve.
Grapefruit Moscow Mule – incredible, so refreshing! I loved this drink so much, I had two. If I lived in Savannah this would quickly become my go to drink.

Quack, Quack, Poutine – it’s quacktastic {oh Joshua}. A very well prepared dish! An upscale version of cheesy fries with duck and goat cheese. The bacon and duck paired well together. The size was rather large, could actually be a meal or an appetizer shared with two or three people. Joshua ordered this for his appetizer and I ended up eating quite a bit of it. Who can say no to cheesy fries? Especially when they were so fancy.
Yellow Watermelon Salad – so fresh, amazing for a hot summer day! Loved the addition of pesto. I literally ate every single bite of this. There was nothing left on my plate.
Simple Steak – cheesy scallop potatoes are to write home about, the cheese + sauce is yumm! Nice cut of steak.
Farmers Market Plate – this consisted of cauliflower steak and a mix of roasted vegetables. This dish was a special for the evening. Which I was so happy about! I am a big fan of cauliflower steak and this was honestly the best I have ever had.
Red Velvet Cake – lighter than a normal piece of red velvet cake but the same incredible flavor!  The best frosting, and I’m a big frosting fan {Joshua’s words}!
Butterscotch Mouse – Okay, y’all I really wish I could share this with everyone that reads this post. This mousse was one of the best desserts I have ever had. I think part of that is because I use to eat Butterscotch pudding as a child, so this brought me back to great memories. This dessert was sinful and light at the same time. The perfect combination!

Brenden was our server for the evening and he was incredible! If possible, I would highly recommend asking for him. He knows their menu forwards and backwards. He was also just a delight overall.

THE COLLINS QUARTER: BRUNCH

So again, we loved The Collins Quarter so much we went back for brunch. We also heard that brunch there was a MUST! Just like dinner, I have to agree with all of the recommendations. Also like dinner, the menu for brunch is unique, exciting, and makes it incredibly hard to make a decision. Seriously, I think it took Joshua and I well over ten minutes to decide what we were getting. We were also trying to influence each other to get second dishes we wanted haha. We will definitely be getting brunch here again the next time we’re in Savannah.

What we had:

Mimosas – We are both big fans of mimosas so this was a must! From the photos, you can tell these mimosas were light on the OJ, which is always a good thing! We both gave these a thumbs up.

French Toast – delectable, the thickness of the bread was quality! The fresh fruit on the top was in fact very fresh! Bourbon syrup was a really great addition, fun touch. Joshua is kind of a French toast connoisseur and he stated that this version was one of his favorites! Especially that bourbon syrup.
Supreme Seafood Toast – I truly could not decide between several dishes so I asked our waiter, Abraham. He recommended this Supreme Seafood toast as it is his favorite and I bit. Now, I definitely agree with him! It was such a fun dish and very delicious, filling without being too filling. Incredible toast with a goat cheese cream cheese spread, wild salmon {I asked}, onions, capers, and mixed greens. Plus a side of avocado. The goat cheese cream cheese was everything!

NANCY

Nancy was recommended to us by a friend I have that lives on the island. It was actually at the top of her list as it’s the perfect spot for a fashion lover. Why? Well Nancy has a boutique. Full of incredible clothing. While the boutique is opened during the day and the restaurant is open in the evening, you can still walk into the boutique portion and check it out. I mean how fun is that? Food and fashion! What more could you want?

What we had:

Ch D’ Esclans Whispering Angel – I’ve recently become very obsessed with rosĆ© {basic I know}. This rosĆ© is now one of my favorites. Lots of light fruit flavors with a really clean finish.
Sonoma Lake Cabernet – Joshua is a big fan of Cabernet! Similar to me with the rosĆ©, this cab was one of his favorites. He even had a second glass! Very rich fruit flavors, strong black cherry.
Scallops – a very nice presentation! The lemongrass was very apparent and wonderful. Melt in your mouth!

Summer Squash SoufflĆ© – I wasn’t 100% sure about this one but decided to give it a try as I really love summer squash. The dish did not disappoint. Absolutely packed with flavor!
Bolognese – Another dish I wasn’t completely sure about but I wanted to step out and try something different. A meat sauce pasta dish. The pasta was homemade and easily some of the best I have ever had. The meat sauce was a combination of flavors – sweet, tangy, and full of spice. I would definitely order again.
Sea Bass – very well prepared! Delicious light roasted corn and tomato sauce. Joshua loved this dish! I think he would have been happy to eat a second dish of it!
Summer Berry Crostata – lots of berries, fresh! Tasty ice cream. Tastes like momma baked it.
Chocolate Layer Cake – Y’all I cannot even tell you how incredible the frosting of this cake was. I was beyond full from my meal but could not stop with this cake. Very different from your typical chocolate layer cake, in the best way possible! When you visit Nancy, you HAVE to get this!

BUBBA GARCIA’S

I’ve said this a couple times but do you even go on vacation if you don’t eat Mexican? I really don’t think so! It’s a must. Just like Bubba Garcia‘s is a MUST stop spot when visiting St. Simons Island. The restaurant is the prefect spot for a casual dining experience. We ate here in between beach time for lunch and I loved it. Would also be perfect for a fun evening out! Bring on the margaritas right? It’s vacation! They have a really fun atmosphere and the kindest staff.

What we had:

House Margarita Rocks– very fresh and delicious!
Skinny Margarita – the BEST skinny margarita I have ever had! Light just like I like them but absolutely packed with flavor {and tequila, duh}.

Chorizo Queso – This isn’t something we’d typical order but it came highly recommended. Once we tasted, we understood why. Yum! The dip had the perfect balance of chorizo and cheese. While there was a little spice, it wasn’t too spicy. A nice change from our typical go to, guacamole.
Fried JalapeƱos – Another highly recommended app. I LOVE spicy food, Joshua not so much. So these were all for me! The fried jalapeƱos were covered with goat cheese and y’all OH. MY GOSH. What an amazing combination. A must try for sure!
Cali Club Taco – crispy bacon and chicken. Great flavor all the way around. Fun take on the classic sandwich.
Taco de Pescado – super generous portion of fish, very filling but also light at the same time.
Spicy Pork Tacos – incredible! Not too spicy but definitely packed a little punch. Great flavor.

GEORGIA SEA GRILL

This place is quite famous! TV Chef Katie Lee shared some of her favorite beach bites in an article for USA Today and Georgia Sea Grill‘s crab stuffed hushpuppies was in her top 10 favorites. They’ve also been in several magazines + online features. After dining there, we could see why! One the staff was so passionate about their jobs, the food, and the restaurant overall. Which is always a great sign. Two, everything we ate made our tastebuds quite happy!

What we had:

Hop Dang Diggity IPA, Jekyll Brewing – lighter side IPA, not too hoppy. Joshua really loved this beer. He typically doesn’t order a second when trying out new beers but he did with this one!
RosĆ©, Mobutu, Costes de Providence – delivers delicate yet intense flavours of summer fruit. Very refreshing, perfect for a summer evening.

Crab Stuffed Hushpuppies – Wish there were more, they are SO good! Packed with flavor and big chunks of crab meat with each bite!
Butternut Squash Ravioli – apparently I was on a squash kick this trip! I loved this dish so much, I want to recreate it at home. So light, fresh, and satisfying.
Red Snapper cooked Pan Seared – cooked just right. Gnocchi was incredibly delicious, I skipped out on the leaks though {not his thing}. The sauce added a lot of flavor!
Key Lime Tarte – perfect choice for the summer! Very light! The graham cracker crust was perfection and the raspberry sauce was a fun addition.
