Shannon Claire Interiors Interview + Giveaway

Sharing an interview with our interior designer Shannon Claire Interiors plus an E-Design giveaway!

Shannon Claire Interiors Interview | E-Design Giveaway | Louella Reese Life & Style Blog

If you’ve been following along on our living + dining room reveal, you know there was someone behind the beautiful space. Her name is Shannon of Shannon Claire Interiors and she helped Joshua and myself create our dream space. Without her, the room would look NOTHING like it does now. From the layout to the paintings to the marble wall and more. She had a vision and it completely came to life to create one beautiful, cozy space for us to enjoy!

So today, I wanted to interview Shannon to help y’all understand a little bit more about what an interior designer does and some tips Shannon has for you when you do work with one. Just a little plug, you should totally work with Shannon! She is incredibly talented and truly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Oh, she’s hilarious too! Read more about my experience with her here.

First, what exactly does an interior designer do?

My goal as an interior designer is to create a space for my clients that is more beautiful than they could have imagined. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes- a lot of people assume that design involves playing with fabrics and colors and pretty accessories. And while that’s certainly true sometimes, I always tell people that design is 10% creativity and 90% paperwork. Project management, spreadsheets, space planning, layouts, vendor relationships, a therapist for your clients, and yes, playing with fabrics, are a few of the many responsibilities of a designer. But at the end of the day, the goal is to create a space that my client loves and one in which they feel completely at home.

When should someone reach out to an interior designer?

If you are considering working with an interior designer, do not hesitate! If you want to zhush up your space and don’t know where to start, or if you are stuck in a creative rut, consider working with a designer. I always try to push the envelope and get my clients to include things in their project that they would never have even thought of- for Laura’s home, she said she never would have considered the artwork above her sofa but now it’s one of her (and my!) favorite pieces in the space! A designer has the ability to look at the space from a completely objective angle- you live and relax in the space all the time, and sometime it’s hard to see the forest through the trees.

What is your number one tip for those who want to work with an interior designer?

Trust your designer. You hired a designer for a reason, and every project will be doomed to fail if there is no trust. Sometimes it’s really easy to get caught up in the supporting details of the space, but the designer has the ability to see the space as a whole. Trust that that person has your best interests at heart and will create a space that you love!

What do you believe is the biggest benefit in working with an interior designer?

Thinking outside of the box and seeing the space as a livable space, but elevated. More than just the design of the space, the designer will have the ability to envision the best layout for the space that fits both form and function

What is your favorite thing about the space you designed for us?

Oh man, I love so much about it! The artwork above the sofa is so beautiful, and I love the calligraphy print- it’s the personal touches like that that really make me happy as a designer. I always try to include at least one piece that starts a conversation or one piece that is a surprise and sentimental that makes the space unique.

Any additional thoughts or words for those thinking or getting ready to work with an interior designer….

Your home is your sanctuary- where you spend your personal time relaxing, sleeping, and eating. It is 100% worth the time and investment to work with someone to make that space the best version that it can be, for you!

Now for the EXTREMELY EXCITING part…Shannon Claire Interiors is giving one lucky Louella Reese reader a E-Design {$1,500 value}

What is E-Design?

E-Design is a simple, virtual design option offered to give clients the opportunity to create a custom room with Shannon Claire Interiors, even if you live far away or don’t want to retain Shannon Claire for full-service design services. All communication is done remotely to provide a comprehensive step-by- step plan for creating a professional designed space that perfectly meets your individual style, space, and budget.

How does the process work?

During our initial exchange, we will discuss the direction of your space- your wishes, aesthetic, needs, and dreams. After you’ve filled out a questionnaire and sent all necessary measurements, I put together an initial Story Board to act as an inspiration for your finished project. Once it’s signed off on, I begin the process of designing your room top to bottom.

What is the final result?

A complete mood board with all of the pieces I recommend for your space, from the paint colors to the custom fabrics. Accompanying the design board will be a comprehensive floorplan so that you can implement the perfect arrangement in your space, and a complete source list of all items for ordering. Great! What do I need to do to get started? First, you need to fill out the questionnaire so that we can establish the budget and all of the requirements for the room. Then, you send over photos of the space along with room measurements. After that is received, we go over all of the inspiration photos (Pinterest boards, etc.) that you have, and I get right to work on the Story Board!
