We Bought A HOUSE!

We bought a house! And I am so excited to share a little of it + the process with you!

We Bought a House! | Louella Reese Home

On July 15th, Joshua and I closed on our very first home! We were giddy as could be that day and that feeling really hasn’t stopped since. We found our home in late May, made and offer the Tuesday after Memorial Day (before seeing the house in person), and had our offer accepted two days later. June was the slowest month ever but the two weeks into July seemed to go very quickly! Think it was all the packing and preparation that made time go a little faster.

We had the interior painted Friday, July 19th and moved in on Sunday, July 21st. Thanks to some amazing friends we had all but like five boxes unpacked by 5pm on Sunday. It was glorious! We all couldn’t believe how fast the move went – we have some talented friends for sure! Since then we’ve been organizing, hanging items, and learning new things like how to install light fixtures and ceiling fans (still working on that one).

We also still cannot get over/use to the fact that this home is ours! Joshua has said a couple of times I feel as though we are at an AirBNB and I completely agree with him.

As promised, I’m going to do a little house tour via Instagram stories today to show y’all how the home looks one week after moving in. I’m wishing I had remembered to take photos of the empty space and what it looked like prior to painting but oh well, fresh walls and a little furniture is what y’all are getting from the start ha.

Until then, below you’ll find a few snaps plus answering a few questions y’all have asked us thus far.

Why Mount Holly instead of Charlotte?

Joshua and I both have always said that we would like to live in a smaller town. One that felt close knit, had a great sense of community, bigger yards, a cute little downtown, and just a great place to raise a family (not pregnant). Oh we also couldn’t wait to get away from Charlotte traffic! We spent a couple of months looking a different areas right outside of Charlotte and decided the Belmont/Mount Holly area was our favorite! We really love the downtowns in both of the towns, how quaint + calm they felt, and all they had to offer.

The drive from Mount Holly to Charlotte is very easy – 25 to 35 minutes depending on which part of Charlotte we are headed to.

Who was your Realtor?

We had the absolute best realtor! Matt Cox from Allen Tate – he was incredible from the start to closing. He found our home before it actually hit the market, which is why we placed an offer on it before even seeing it in person. Which ended up being the best decision ever. He guided us through all of that, all the nerves we had, and answered every question we had within minutes.

Not only was he incredible as a realtor but by closing we truly saw Matt as a friend. He is such a great guy – someone you want in your corner!

What projects to you have planned for the home?

So we completely lucked out and found a two year old home that was built by the owners father who is a GC. Therefore, our home has a great amount of character, upgrades, and as well thought out. However, we do have a couple of things we would like to do. The first was having the interior painted white – we went with Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore – to brighten up the home a little more.

From there, we would like to do a built-in in our living room/entry to create a little more storage since we do not have an entry closet. That one will take a little planning but I have a pretty good idea in mind and am quite excited about it! We also need to figure out how to maximize our closets. We have five closets of varying sizes and I feel each could be utilized/laid out a little better than they are right now so need to work on that.

Then come spring, LOTS of yard work + planting to be down. I’m super excited about this as we have an acre lot and have some pretty fun ideas in mind for that.

What are your favorite parts of the house?

For me, the natural light we have throughout the house and the character of it – the exterior, the bathrooms, the fireplace, and the kitchen. Can you tell I really love this house? For Joshua, I would say it the shed is probably he favorite part of the house. We’re calling it his man shed and it is 100% his space to do whatever he wants with it. So you better believe all of this signs, sports memorabilia, and all that are already hung up and being showcased! He definitely loves the yard as well – although we mowed the lawn for the first time last week with our push mower and it took two hours! So I think he is very excited to get a riding lawn mower someday soon – taking all recommendations on that one!
