A Married Couple’s First Date Tips

Joshua and I dive into the topic of a first date! A little about ours and tips + recommendations.

How did your first date go? What did you do?

Joshua: I planned a dinner date out at a local restaurant, Rock Bottom, that was walking distance from my house. I chose that restaurant because it had salmon and I knew Laura Leigh loved salmon. As far as I remember, it went well. Judging where are are now, I would say my memory is correct!

Laura Leigh: Joshua did all of the planning, which I loved! I also thought it was incredibly sweet that he choose a restaurant because he remembered me mentioning I loved salmon. Our first date went well. We had known each other for years and had hung out in group setting previously so it wasn’t quite as awkward as some first dates can be. Conversation was easy for us and I definitely left excited for the next date!

What do you recommend doing for a first date?

Joshua: I recommend keeping it casual. Either doing a casual dinner or an interactive activity. Possibly bowling or putt-putt. Something fun to cut down on the awkwardness as first dates can be a little awkward.

Laura Leigh: Like Joshua, I recommend doing something fun, a little silly. Like playing putt-putt or visit a local game bar {the ones with classic pinball machines}. Playing games together is a great way to bond, laugh, and have a great time together! Just remember, don’t let that overly competitive side take over

Things to talk about on a first date?

Joshua: Talk about family {where they’re from, siblings, where their family lives now, etc..}, work {what they do, if they have ambitions to do something different, likes and dislikes about it}, and interests/hobbies {hopefully find some common ones, maybe get an idea for the next date}.

Laura Leigh: I definitely think talking about interests/hobbies is the most beneficial and a great way to keep the conversation positive. Sometimes when you talk about work, if the person hates their job, it can turn into a vent session. Talk about favorite movies, television shoes, favorite restaurants in your area {help for future dates}, and concerts you’re looking forward to attending. All fun stuff and a great way to find more common interests.

Who should pay?

Joshua: The guy should always pay on the first date. I’m very traditional and would always pay.

Laura Leigh: I’m traditional and say the guy should pay for the first date. Even the first few dates. I personally am all about them paying until your exclusive. At that time, there should be some splitting of bills or the gal picking it up on occasion.

Kiss on the first date? Yay or Nay?

Joshua: Nay. You don’t want to force it. There will be plenty of opportunity to do so at a later date, if you play your cards right!

Laura Leigh: Nay. Hold off for the second or third date. Leave them wanting more

You guys are the cutest, and I LOVED your responses.I totally agree with the traditional way of the guy paying on the first date — that’s how I knew Matt was a gentleman on our first date! ……..not gonna lie I might have given him a little kiss at the end of the date;) BUt at least that worked out for me!

Awww this was so cute to read! I remember my first date with Brandon being so bizarre because we met in another state, and got to know each other via long distance for several months. so that first date was also the same night as our first kiss and our first “i love you” moment and it was definitely weird in comparison to most peoples’ experiences, but special to us for sure!
