Yesterday on Instagram I shared a recent bad habit I’ve broken and how it’s changed my mornings for me. After spilling, it seems a lot of you have the same bad habit you would like to break. Or something very similar. So I figured, why not chat about it here and share three tips for breaking a bad habit for GOOD

If you missed the post last night, let me fill you in. Last week I vowed to kick a bad habit and so far I’m six days free of it. What was it? Picking up my phone the second I woke up to check social media, email, and my to do list for the day. Meaning I immediately started working and stressing the minute I woke up. So I made a new rule: NO PHONE FOR THE FIRST HOUR OF MY DAY.

Y’all it has been quite glorious. My mornings start slower, I enjoy and get more out of my devotional time while feeling relaxed with full attention on the reading, and I get the little tidying up around the house done before I dive into work. Which ends up making a lot more productive throughout the day. So overall it has been pretty great! A habit I’m so glad I committed to breaking.

Is it a habit you would like to break as well?

Then let’s chat about three ways to break a habit for GOOD!

Three Tips for Breaking a Habit for Good

  1. Make it a goal to quit, plan out when you will start your efforts towards breaking the bad habit and set an official start date (maybe even tomorrow).  Write down the bad habit you want to kick and the date you want to start doing. This makes it more real, more of a priority, and a little more of a commitment to REALLY making it happen.
  2. Replace your bad habit with something else. It’s hard to not reach for the phone if I don’t have something else planned. Therefore, I have filled my morning time (that first hour) with things – a morning devotional, tidying up around the house, and making my morning tea. All of this fills that time I would have spent scrolling, checking emails, and working on my to do list.
  3. Make it easy on yourself. By that I mean, remove as many triggers as you can. Things that would lead you towards that bad habit. Example: my phone typically stays on the edge of the nightstand closest to me. That way I can grab it if I can’t sleep (dumb) or right away in the morning. However, I’ve now moved it to the other side of my nightstand so I cannot reach it without getting up. This prevents me from reaching right over to grab it the second I wake up and staying all warm and cozy in bed. Now I reach for my devotional book instead which is now the closest thing to me.

So now that we’ve chatted about that, let’s talk about today’s look. One of my favorite looks this summer, now that summer is almost over haha. However, this jumpsuit is perfect for taking you from end of summer into early fall. The color screams fall while the fit screams summer…told you, perfect! Today I’ve styled the piece for summer with a clear belt bag (my new obsession) and easy leather sandals.

For fall, I plan to style it with a denim jacket and sneakers. Then dress it up a bit with a cashmere sweater and chic pointy toe flats. A super versatile piece for under $100. Which also comes in black if terra-cotta ain’t your thang! But y’all I promise you it’s the prettiest color! Even prettier in person than online.

  8. Not using my phone for the first hour of the day is a huge goal of mine right now. I don’t reach for my devotional as much as possible but I try to sleep with my phone on the other side of the room.
