Men’s Shoes

Back after popular demand, a post for the guys

The Guide to Men’s Shoes

What you should own, When and Where to wear them, and What to pair them with

1. Dress Oxford – These are for special occasions like a meeting with your largest client, weddings, and black tie events. They need to be clean cut, classic, and polished often. Make sure they are comfortable as you will be wearing them to weddings and black tie events where you will most likely be dancing.

2. Dress/Casual Wingtip – a business professionals go to dress shoe. They will work with almost every outfit and day to day event. If you get a pair like the ones on the left that have a little bit of worn look with the darker and lighter brown you can pair them with your dress jeans as well (by that I mean your darkest and most clean cut jeans). These are the shoes to spend a little extra on as you’ll be wearing them often.

3. Penny Loafers – perfect for causal business events or date nights with your girl. They’re easy to slip on and off for those moments you need to get out the door quick. Pair with trousers and a polo or button down. Look great with a blazer added as well.

They’re also the shoe of Southern Gentleman as I had one of my doctors tell me – just be sure you ditch the socks. Summer months they can be paired with chinos and more tailored shorts as well.

4. Chukka Boots – These are another go to shoe for guys as they can be dressed up or down and worn with pretty much anything in between. Not to mention most girls find them to be pretty darn attractive on guys! When paired with the right thing that is – no shorts please! Look best paired with jeans, khakis, chinos, or cords. Perfect night out shoe when paired with dark jeans or chinos and a button down shirt.

5. Boat Shoes – very versatile shoe. Can be worn with khakis or jeans with a polo or button down shirt or shorts in the summer time with a simple t-shirt. Can’t go wrong with the classic brown color but there are tons of different options to spice it up a bit – this grey is my top choice.

6. Everyday Sneakers – the perfect casual everyday shoe that can be worn with or without socks. Good for running errands, bar crawling, days at the beach, cook outs, and times when sandals aren’t quite appropriate.

7. Athletic Sneakers – These are for  running, hitting the gym, outdoor activities like playing a pick up game of football with your buddies, wondering theme parks in the summer – super causal events. They are NOT to be paired with khaki pants or blue jeans (that’s where the boat shoes and everyday sneakers come in). In the summer it’s appropriate to wear them with tailored shorts but make sure the event again is super casual. On a side not you should replace your sneakers about every 6 to 8 months depending on how active you are.

8. Sandals – Another shoe for very casual events and obviously warmer weather. Best kept for the beach, lake, pool, water parks, and running errands in the summer when closed toe shoes just aren’t possible.
