Okay, if I am being completely honest I didn’t see the real joy or point in decorating for Christmas (I know, gasp!) until this year. Settling into your own home changes the game! I have throughly enjoyed decorating this Christmas season and am thinking we need to leave ALL of the decorations up way past the first of the year. I don’t want to see them go!

The spot I was most excited to decorate…our mantle! Having a fireplace with a hearth and mantle was incredibly important to both Joshua and myself. We also really wanted a wood burning fireplace but a home without one wouldn’t be a dealbreaker. Lucky for us though, our dream home included that special feature. We are very much looking forward to some cozy nights by the fire this Christmas season! Especially now that the mantle is all decorated!

For the mantle decor I wanted to keep things pretty simple while adding lots of greenery and a touch of blue – you know I have to have some blue…everywhere!

The two prints actually live on the mantle full time but I loved how the snowy cow print played up the Christmas theme. The ginger jars are also permanent mantle decor (well for now) I just moved them around a bit and removed on to create space for the vase full of dried eucalyptus.

Now for the fun, creative part! The garland is actually pieces of our Christmas tree we had to chop off of the Christmas tree in order for our tree collar to fit. I didn’t want to throw them away so I spent a little time arranging them on the mantle and have to say I love how it turned out. Not to mention it smells amazing! To add more natural, I collected pine cones on a recent hike and add a few of them around the garland.

To finish off the mantle, these adorable house Christmas tree stocking holder that are just $15. Love how the white pops against the greenery. Of course we needed some stockings to hang on the them so I added two burlap stockings. They perfectly play into the simple cottage/farmhouse vibe I was after.

A few cozy pieces on the hearth and the space is complete!

What do you think? Are you into the simple, natural look or more colorful, whimsical Christmas decor?

  12. This was the first year that I was decorating my boyfriend’s home with him for Christmas and it was SO much fun picking out some festive decor pieces to jazz up his place! I think the garland wrapped around your mantle is just the right pop of greenery that looks Christmas-appropriate AND super chic at the same time! Great decorating!
