When it comes to wedding attire there are so many items brides talk about, such as their dress, their shoes, the jewelry they’re borrowing from their mother or grandmother but there is one item {or two} that is often not mentioned. What she’s wearing under her dress. While some feel this as scandalous talk, others understand that what is under your dress can make ALL the difference on how your dress looks. Underneath every great gown, is an even greater shape wear! So today I’m breaking down what I’ll be wearing under my dress + how to choose the right piece for your dress.
David’s Bridal might be a store that only comes to mind when thinking about wedding dresses or an easy choice for bridesmaid dresses. Much to my surprise, I found out it’s also an amazing spot for undergarments and shapewear! Their selection is incredible with a wide variety of styles for all dresses, sizes, and shapes. Whether you have a ball gown, fit and flare, mermaid, sheath, or another wedding gown silhouette their selection has you covered! They’ve been dressing ladies for all occasions for over 60 years now. I think they know what they’re talking about!!
The right undergarment isn’t going to only create a smoother look but it’ll also prevent you from a wedding day wardrobe malfunction. Let’s be honest, what bride wants to experience that on her big day {or during her shower or rehearsal dinner}? Definitely not me! One piece I chose to help create a smoother look was the Spanx OnCore High-Waisted Shorts. These shorts create a smooth look with zero lines and help pull everything in! I don’t know about you but Spanx give me a little extra confidence boost. I absolutely love wearing them! If you have a dress that is cut close to the body from the waist down at all, these would be a great go to for you!
With a strapless dress, my next choice was a beautiful torsolette. One that provided coverage, support, and also smoothed the mid section. A torsolette is a great option for a strapless or spaghetti strap wearing bride to be. The torsolette will provide the coverage and security you need to get down on the dance floor with your groom!

If you’re looking for something a little more, like a full slip or full body Spanx you can find that here. David’s Bridal has a variety of slips to provide your dress with a little extra fluff and sass! While also having full body Spanx that help keep everything smooth, supported, and under control. This option would be ideal for a bride wearing a sheath style dress with wider straps or sleeves. As for those brides looking for minimal coverage, there are some wonderful options for you as well! David’s Bridal undergarments also come in variety of colors such as nude, black, white, so finding one to match your dress will be a breeze!
My biggest piece of advice would be to find undergarments and shapewear that make you feel comfortable! You should be able to move, dance, and glide down that aisle feeling comfortable and flawless!
