I know this is very delayed but I wanted to share our wedding with you prior to going into our honeymoon. This is an expensive time for many so it could be a good time to see if you can cut back on utility bills like broadband. You can even compare broadband prices online. So with all the wedding features out of the way, it’s time to talk honeymoon. Our honeymoon was truly a incredible. Way more amazing than I had every expected. And I had high expectations {shocking ha}. We were lucky enough to have recommendations from some friends and a travel agent that was a dream to work with. After telling our travel agent {find out more about her at the end of this post} what we wanted and the dates we would be traveling, we settled on The Excellence Resort in Playa Mujeres, Mexico. Our main criteria was an adult only resort, somewhere tropical, and all inclusive. With our hectic lifestyles and the fact that we hadn’t been anywhere tropical together yet, we wanted to completely lay back and relax. To soak in what just occurred {our marriage + wedding} and enjoy one another. At The Excellence Resort that was incredibly easy!
We stayed in a junior suite room and took part in the Excellence Club. This club gave us access to VIP beaches, bars, and our own private concierge. Additionally there was a club room for only Excellence Club members were they had a small bar, lots of food, and other items to enjoy. If you decide on an Excellence property for your honeymoon or vacation, I highly recommend taking part in the Excellence Club. You will not regret it!
When arriving at The Excellence Resort you’re handed a nice cold towel and champagne. Hello paradise! Oh and they also greet you with your new last name {swoon}. Soon after checking in at the Excellence Club we made our way to the beach. We could not wait to feel the sun on our skin and grab a couple of margaritas. We spent the afternoon there and then made our way to the room to change for dinner. The Excellence Resorts have a variety of restaurants including – Mexican, French, Indian, Italian, Mediterranean, a Lobster House, and Hibachi. Additionally, there is a wood-fire pizza bar by the pool and a beach bar/restaurant on the beach. We made sure to try out as much as possible!
My personal favorite for lunch were the wood-fire pizzas, I had one for lunch every day. I had to try out all of the different combinations! For dinner, Joshua and I both loved the French bistro. We were also big fans of the Mexican restaurant as Mexican food is our favorite. The Mexican restaurant also offered a tequila tasting bar which I was all about!
The resort also had events throughout our stay including beach parties and a Mexican fiesta. We were personally looking for a very low key experience so we had dinner prior to dropping into the events. We simply stopped in to see what they were all about and to grab churros.
Our days were spent on the beach lounging! We typically started there in the am and ended up at the pool around 3/4pm for the last hour or two of the afternoon sun. The Excellence Club offered board games so we got a little competitive with Scrabble and Jenga. Which was such a blast!
My drink of choice was a no added sugar daiquiri. So basically I had frozen strawberries and rum…it was amazing! Joshua loved trying out different drinks and all of the Mexican beers. We were both fans of Sol. It doesn’t get much better than enjoying a tropical drink or Mexican beer while lounging in the sun.
We didn’t do any excursions as again, we really wanted to take it easy. But we did have a spa day, which was beyond incredible! And, we took one of their sail boats out a couple of times. We had so much fun cruising up and down the beach. Joshua was a great captain! I was a nervous nelly but honestly loved it.
Our room included a beautiful balcony that looked over the ocean and resort. This was my favorite part of the room! I loved laying out on the day bed in the mornings and evenings. So peaceful and relaxing. We read our devotionals here and some marriage material the man who married us gave to us. Those were some of my favorite moments and ones I will look back at often.
Honestly, I could go on and on about our honeymoon and why you need to go to The Excellence Resort in Playa Mujeres but I think the photos are convincing enough! If y’all have any questions about our honeymoon, the resort, how we decided on this property, or our travel guide please let me know. I would be happy to share any of this information with you.
