I don’t know about you but I am not the biggest fan of bra shopping. It’s not really something I look forward to. Therefore I hold on to bras for way too many months and sometimes years. Which is a HUGE no, no. Bras should only be worn for about eight months. And that’s IF they’re worn properly. That means not wearing them two days in a row, rotating between several different bras, storing, and washing them correctly. After that amount of time your band is stretched out and not supporting you the way it should. Additionally, your body changes. You lose weight, you gain weight, you’ve had a baby, and several other things cause your body to change. Therefore the bra you were wearing doesn’t fit you properly.

So today I’m partnering with Chantelle and talking new year, new you! Not the typical new you…I’m not suggesting a new diet or work out regiment. But instead a new bra! Having a bra that fits you perfectly and properly is extremely important. You’ll feel better, your girls will be happier, and your overall appearance will improve. The correct bra can completely change and enhance you’re look!
So let’s dive in and talk about what you need to do. Call your local Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, or Dillard’s and make an appointment with your Chantelle Fit Expert. Or you can call a Chantelle Fit Expert at 1-800-482-8202 or email at [email protected]. Or you can check out their at home fit guide here. They will find the correct size for you while having you try on a variety of styles. They honestly make the whole experience fun and exciting! Plus they’re gorgeous bras will have you wanting to try more and more. Keep an open mind. They may ask you to try on a couple of styles you normally wouldn’t be into. Often times these end up being your favorite ones. {This is what happened to me}.
One of my top tips when purchasing a bra is make sure you’re hooking the bra on the last set of hooks. The bra should fit very snug. Your bra will stretch about three inches over it’s lifetime. Therefore hooking it on the last set of hooks will allow you to tighten it as it stretches. This will allow you to get more wear out of your bra and have it fit you properly for longer. It will seem very tight but I promise after wearing one or two times you’ll be completely use to it and love that snug feeling.

An additional tip, you should have a variety of bras! You CANNOT wear the same bra with every single article of clothing. Some dresses require a strapless bra while others require a little {or a lot} of push up. Certain activities {working out} require a totally different bra. Having the right bra for different activities, articles of clothing, and days is extremely important. As mentioned at the beginning of this post, it’s important to rotate bras. This will help with the longevity of your bra. I recommend you have about 6-7 different bras in your lingerie drawer. And here they are..
An everyday nude bra… this bra will offer you medium coverage and lift for all day comfort and support. This is a bra you’ll reach for often as it’s comfortable and can be worn with several of your everyday favorite tops.
A date night pattern bra…this bra is sexy but comfortable. One you’ll look forward to wearing and feel great in! This should be in your favorite color or a pattern that contains that color. A low cut is recommended as it’ll allow you to wear a variety of tops/dresses.
A work out bra…this bra should be full coverage and provide lots of support! While wearing this bra you’ll obviously be moving a lot, possibly bouncing up and down. Having adjustable straps is also very important! This will allow you to tighten it if needed. Also if your bra does stretch out you’ll be able to tighten as that happens.
A strapless bra…this bra should provide you with medium to full coverage and maximum support. I highly recommend one without a silicone band. Silicone bands can be extremely uncomfortable and hurt after hours of wear {and dancing}. One with multi-position straps is also fabulous! Allowing you the ability to wear the bra with several different styles of tops and dresses.
A push up bra…Every gal needs a great push up bra! Let’s be honest, there’s days when we want to strut it with confidence and work what our momma’s gave us. This bra should lift while also having a deep plunge. Again allowing you to wear it with a variety of tops and dresses. I personally choose a bright color whenever purchasing a push up bra. They’re fun and I think the color should be too!
An additional nude bra…If we’re all being honest, we wear our nude bras almost daily. Therefore having two + is necessary. As mentioned in this post a couple of times, rotating bras is very important. This additional nude bra could be exactly the same as your everyday nude bra or you could spice it up. I personally went with one that offered a little more support and lift.
Okay now you know the six + bras you need to have in your lingerie drawer. As well as some tips for getting the correct fit and making your bras last. So let’s celebrate the new year with a new you AND a new bra or two! Find all the bras you need here with Chantelle.
