Six Ways to Have a Productive Snow Day

With Wednesday being a snow day here in Charlotte, I’m sharing six ways to have a productive snow day!

If you follow me on any social media outlet, you know I’m obsessing over the snow we received here in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday. Snow flakes started falling early in the morning and by 9am when I looked out my office window, everything was covered with snow! I was truly blown away and couldn’t wait to get outside. Yesterday, I shared a bunch of snaps Joshua and I took while exploring the winter wonderland that was Charlotte Wednesday. Sadly, the sun came out in full force on yesterday and the snow quickly melted.

However, I really enjoyed the snow day! With the cold temperatures, messy roads, and basically everything closing down in Charlotte, snow days are the perfect excuse to stay inside. To cozy up in your pajamas and big sweaters. And if you’re like me, drink lots of hot tea. While some snow days are meant for watching movies snuggled up on the couch, others are meant for being uber productive. Which is what Joshua and I choose Wednesday! We both worked a full work day, crossed lots off our to do lists, and still fit in some time to play in the snow.

So how can you be productive on a snow day?

Six Ways to Have a Productive Snow Day

1. Clean out your inbox  – The dreaded inbox. There’s never a time we really want to do this or feel we have time to do this. However, a snow day is the perfect time to finally sit down and organize + clean out your inbox.

  • Create folders to organize
  • Delete unnecessary emails
  • Unsubscribe from subscription lists you never want to see an email from again {or those you need to stop getting so you stop shopping}. If you haven’t tried unroll.me, I totally recommend it! It’s a one stop spot for unsubscribing from all those stores, companies, job boards, etc..that you no longer want to receive emails from.

2. Organize that calendar – If both you and your significant other are home due to the snow day, sit down and plan out your social/work life calendar for the next month or two {or season}! Merge your Google Calendars and schedule out all of your events, family get togethers, and trips. Being able to check your phone for your significant other’s schedule rather than text them about it a million times is SO nice and saves some frustration. I promise, you’ll be incredibly thankful you did tas the weeks unfold.

  • If you’re single, plan out your travels, events, work out classes, etc..so you can really enjoy your down time when you have it and also make sure you get those work outs in to keep up with those New Years resolutions.
  • If you’re a blogger, use this day to really work on your editorial calendar and plan out your posts for the next couple of weeks or months, if you have the ability to do that. Having an editorial calendar that is organized and planned out is so helpful! Takes a lot of pressure off of you and tends to help me stay more consistent with my posting.

3. Clean – Now I know this isn’t too exciting but being stuck indoors all day is truly a great time to clean! Plus, if you’re there all day, it might as well be a clean space you’re in, right? Dust, vacuum, wipe down the kitchen counters, sweep/mop the floor. And if you really get into the cleaning mode, open your closet. Even though it’s a snow day, winter won’t be here for that much longer. Purge that closet!

4. Workout – Now you’re all probably like NO! But Wednesday when we were home for our snow day, I did my 28 minute BBG workout {which is SO easy to do at home} and felt a lot much better about sitting in the house most of the day. I also gained more energy from doing it which then made me do more items on my to do list. Plus, I felt pretty productive upon completing it! Why not cross one workout for the week off at home? You can wear your big t-shirt, shorts, and crazy hair, no one will see you haha

5. Read a Book – I know most of us have a book sitting on a shelf or on our nightstand at home that we’ve been meaning to read. Maybe you’ve started it or maybe you haven’t even opened the cover yet. Well a snow day is kind of meant for curling up on the couch and spending a little time reading. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and really enjoy! After all, if you completed #4 above, you deserve a little hot cocoa.

6. Relax – Yes, I am listing relaxing as a productive thing to do. Most of us don’t get enough relaxing in our lives. So when we do, it’s productive. It’s good for us, necessary for our bodies and minds, and it feels good! So grab that book from #5, pour yourself a glass of wine, and prepare a warm bubble bath. Then lock the door, leave your phone on the other side of it, and relax! I

  1. Great list of things to tackle on a snow day. We had 2 snow days this past week too here in Houston. While I was not that productive it was nice all the same with my kiddos. 🙂
