Faith, Bible Reading, Weekly Reading, LR SundaysDo not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals” – 1 Corinthians 15:33

My parents always said {I’m sure yours did too} who you hang out with can influence what others think of you and also the way that you act. While my middle school sunday school teacher use to tell us, it’s easier for someone to bring another person down, rather than that faithful person to lift the other up.

These two messages at the time that were lost on me. I didn’t think it mattered who I surrounded myself with. What they did, was that they did and what I did, was what I did. I never thought they influenced one another or that my friends could cause me to change who I am. I think anyone who has graduated from high school and/or college can look back and say that’s not true! Who you surround yourself with completely affects who you are, how you act, and what you do. Do you agree?

Being 100% truthful, I didn’t always surround myself with the most faithful of people. A lot of my friends at different times in my life didn’t see faith as a big deal. {Just a little side note here, this isn’t me judging at all!! I believe everyone has the right to their own way of life, I’m simply talking about how faith is important to me and how being around others who may not see it that way affected me personally}. We didn’t share the same moral beliefs. Who do you think started taking on the moral beliefs of the other(s)? This gal. Their actions, beliefs, and way of life influenced me to do things, say things, and be someone who didn’t follow God the way she had intended to or wanted to.

I’m going to warn you this may sound cheesy but it’s true. When Joshua and I starting dating, this all changed. While after my years in college I strengthened my bond with God and found the right church for me in Charlotte. When Joshua came into my life though he influenced me in a positive light to dive even deeper into my faith. He surrounded me with friends who were even more faithful. Being around him and being around company that share the same faith, belief, and morals has only lifted me up!

Do not be deceived bad company ruins good morals. Good company lifts you up, strengthens you, and brings out the best in you. The company you surround yourself with is incredibly important!
